Description: First printing of this edition. Full speckled calf leather binding. Highly decorated spine with gilt striped motif, flowers and other symbols. Green title square stating Horatius Jouvency. Gilted board edges. Marbled block edges and endpapers. Frontispiece of horatii opera. 12p+ 390p +2p.

Condition: Minimal crack to back top hinge. Two pages have a small stain to top. Internally clean, binding firm. Overall in a highly collectible condition.

Content: Horace, was the leading Roman lyric poet during the time of Augustus. Horace can be regarded as the world's first autobiographers, in his writings, he tells us far more about himself, his character, his development, and his way of life than any other great poet in antiquity. Book contains introduction to his life, four odarum books divided into lyrical poems closing with an epodon. Two satyrarum books, two epistolarum books and closing section: Q. Horatii Flacci de arte poeticaliber.
