Two rare Bois Durci plaques of Tsar Nikolaas II and of Nikolaas with Alexandra. (Coronation-Cameo plaque in Bois Durci ?)
BOIS DURCI is pressed ox blood with ground rosewood, the precursor of bakelite.
Presumably French given the text; Nicolas II Empereur. This plaque is signed Fröger or Froger, see photos.
Both in an old frame with the gilded Imperial Weapon.
1896 was the Crown Year of the Tsar and Tsarina, so it is possible that this is the Coronation-Cameo plaque or the small head on the relief under the Tsar and Tsarina is Olga the first-born who joined on State Visit to France in 1896.
