With the name Columbus the corkscrew was held together by a two piece, sliding ring sleeve, became world famous. The method was registered for E. Becker Solingen under number 7609 on August 29th 1892.

On March 7th 1893 under no. 70879 the patent was granted, which means that this corkscrew can be considered one of the first, followed by many others, however with the new no. 70879.
