Very nice Directoire period pair of bronze candlesticks. The typical shape of the shaft is very thin at the base and more flared at the top.
The screw thread is handcrafted but much more worked than that of the 18th century but less so than those of the 19th century.
The shaft is made using the double shell method: manufactured in two parts and then assembled (clearly visible on the screw.)
Bronze (which is yellow and not pink) is the victim of small spots visible in the photos.
A shaft does not unscrew, it must have been welded or glued. The round bases are not perfectly round, victims of small shocks.
650 g each and measures 27 × 14 cm
