CONRAD HECTOR RAFAELE CARELLI studied in Paris at the Académie Julian in 1889. The Conrad Carelli family lived in Menton on the French Riviera. He travelled extensively across Europe, North Africa and the Middle East his paintings held in museum collections - the V&A London. ref SD 203.
A family of Neapolitan artists: his grandfather Raffaele Carelli (1795 – 1864 ), his father Gabriele Carelli (1818 – 1900), and uncles Consalvo and Archille Carelli - all artists belonging to the School of Posilipo. These artists were influenced by the beauty of Naples and surrounding coastline and villages, producing lyrical landscapes.
This Napoli Italian coast watercolour - a place where all his extended family lived and worked. His father "Gabriele Carelli" had painted exactly the same scene years earlier.
