A secondary martial sidearm known as a Navy Second Model Revolver, this piece is one of approximately 11,000 handguns produced by Cooper Firearms between 1864 and 1869.
In good overall condition this Cooper sidearm is a double-action/single-action, .36 caliber model with a three-screw frame and a 5-shot rebated cylinder matched to a 4” long, octagonal barrel. The cylinder has intact safety notches and original nipples, all mechanisms are in working order.
Barrel address “COOPER FIREARMS MFG. CO. FRANKFORD PHILA. PA. / PAT. JAN 7 1851 APR 25 1854 SEP 4 1860 / SEP 1 1863 SEP 22 1863”.
Low serial number "6491" on buttstrap, barrel and cylinder indicates an early production. This is one of the few percussion double-action revolvers used in the Civil War.
No pitting, 30-40% blueing remains, the brass have a dark patina consistent with this weapon’s age and use. All screws in good condition. The grips are one-piece walnut.
This Cooper Navy revolver makes a great addition to any military collection.
