A Japanese Satsuma sculpture of Kannon, Meiji (1868-1912), ca 1900, ca 22.5 cm. high, 20.5 cm. wide and 16.5 cm. deep.
The Japanese bodhisattva seated on an woven oval mat, wearing a long pleated white robe with embroidered stylized cloud patterns, her face with meditative expression, the forehead with 'urna', the long hair with lotus flower falling from under her hood, her chest with lotus-shaped ornament, holding a twig in het right hand and a bowl in her left, to her right side three scrolls, in excellent condition.
Purchased at auction house AAG, Amsterdam, The Netherlands (October 2001).
