2nd half 20th century - Fair condition, used with visible signs of wear

Authentic ancestor statue, named "Singiti", made in the village Mukoko by one of the famous woodcarvers of the Hemba people. Such ancestor figures, representing deceased local chiefs, were placed in a saparate small hut close to the family huts and they were supposed to protect their progeny and to provide wise advice in the context of rituals.
Part of a private family collection (3 generations) of African artefacts gathered during more than 60 years. Bought in Bukavu, 1988, through a middleman living in Kabambare.
