Umberto Ghersi, born in Albisola in 1913, was a painter, decorator and a good ceramics and earthenware technician. After learning the basics of the subject at the tableware factory owned by his family, he started his artistic training at the "Poggi" workshop and, after an experience as a turner and technician in the earths department at "La Casa dell'Arte" factory, started in 1926, he worked as a decorator in several other shops in Albisola, including the "Fenice", the "S.P.I.C.A." and the "M.G.A."
In the 1950s, he was among the co-founders of "L.A.C.A." ceramic factory in Albisola, where he was the art director.
In 1964 he set up his own company and founded the "Ghersi Umberto Ceramiche" based in Via Respighi 2, in Albissola Mare.
