Description
Gerard Delfgaauw (1882-1947) - Dorpsgezicht Oude Wetering met molen en schepen
Oil on canvas - 1930

Oil on canvas, dimensions 24 x 44 cm, signed in the lower right corner. Nice time picture of Oude Wetering by Gerard Delfgaauw.
Gerardus Johannes Delfgaauw (1882 Monster - 1947 Rijswijk).

Gerard Delfgaauw grew up in the watery Westland. He lived and worked in Rijswijk. The polder landscape, with its windmills in particular, is therefore an important subject in many of his paintings. But Delfgaauw's oeuvre is much broader. He painted village and city views (e.g. of Dordrecht and Delft), winter landscapes and scenes in the port of Rotterdam.

Delfgaauw painted in an impressionistic-naturalistic style. He is considered to be a member of the second generation Haagse School. Gerard Delfgaauw was the painter of sunlight, in other words, the sun is always there to drive out the shadows. His skies are often applied coarsely to the canvas in light shades.
