Very beautiful and atmospheric winter landscape by H. Smit (1898-1979). Smit's work belongs to naïve art. He was a pupil of Johannes Josephus Aarts.
The work is in good condition with some signs of wear, see the photos, these are part of the description. The frame has some damage.
The naive art movement is a form of visual art, usually painting, that is characterized by a naive and sometimes childish-like way in which the subject is portrayed and the techniques are used. The term naive art was originally a condescending term with which critics spoke about this style. Nowadays, the genre has taken its place, it is taken seriously and training can be followed.
