Pino Procopio, born Giuseppe Antonio Procopio (Guardavalle, 16 June 1954), is an Italian painter, sculptor and illustrator, exponent of the representational art. Artistic studies started in Catanzaro, but completed in Rome, in 1982 he graduated in Architecture at the University La Sapienza in Rome. In 1980 the art centre “La Bitta” hosted his first solo exhibition. After two years spent in Verona, he settled in Giulianova, Abruzzo, in 1985.
In 2001 the “Fondazione Italiana Stauròs Onlus” invited him to exhibit his works at the Staurós museum of sacred contemporary art in San Gabriele. Today, the artwork “Padre, nelle tue mani consegno il mio spirito” is a permanent piece of the museum collection [1]. The following year, in 2002, he made the painting for the poster of the “World Book and Copyright Day” organised by the UNESCO. In 2003 the government monopolies commissioned him a painting to be placed on the ticket of the European Lottery. In 2004 he was commissioned to create the painting to be placed on the Lotteria Italia ticket. In 2005 the Ministry of Communications promoted one of his exhibitions in Rome, about the evolution of the Italian postal service in 100 years of history[3]. In 2007 the Pescara Committee of the Dante Alighieri Society gave him the “Dante Alighieri 2007” award for the art category.
The following year, in 2008 in Rome, the Boncompagni-Ludovisi museum of the “Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea” organised “Ulisse, scene di un viaggio”, an exhibition dedicated to him. In 2015, in Rome, the “Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Moderna” (GNAM) invited him to participate in the group exhibition CORPORATE ART, that aimed to highlight the close connection between industry and art, through different commissions. In 2017, with the patronage of UNESCO and MIUR (Ministry of Education, Universities and Research), the exhibition “Baadaye, Pinocchio d’Africa” took place. It was a new version of the story of Pinocchio, in a modern way, linked to the tragedy of immigration.
