Kindombolo "trouble maker" mask - Oriental hanger - DR Congo

Description
Kindombolo "trouble maker" mask - Oriental hanger - DR Congo
1st half 20th century - Vintage - used with visible signs of wear

22 cm.
Former painter from Brussels.
Wood, pigments.

Eastern Pende masks are well-known for their very geometric and cubist forms, like for example, the African Panya Ngombe and the Pumbu masks, our gallery owns some original items of these.
Their expressiveness is enhanced by the use of colours.
This is the sculpture of a classic “Kindombolo-Mapombolo” mask, meaning “trouble-maker”. There are variants of these with horns, but more recent and less sought-after. This mask with a raw allure is from the first generation.

Shipment within 24 working hours.
Track & trace included.
With acknowledgement of receipt.
