Pumbu mask - Oriental hanger - DR Congo
1st half 20th century - Vintage - used with visible signs of wear

Provenance: Family of colonists, former Zaire - brought back in 1960, collected in Mukoso.
Family inheritance.

African Pende Mask of the Pumbu type.
The long face is pierced with circular eyes.
The latter is strongly elongated, in the classical way of the eastern Pende, renowned for their masks of the Panya Ngombe type, etc, focused on cubism.
The patina of this piece is very dark, but is ornamented with geometric motifs. The internal patina is beautiful and quite ancient.
