Settler statuette - Baoule - Côte d'Ivoire
1st half 20th century - Vintage - used with visible signs of wear

25 cm.
Former French collection, Alphonse Kann; Middle of the 20th century.
Former private Belgian R. Debacker collection.
Wood, pigments.

Relatively ancient Baule Blolo Bla figurine which was used and found in a village near Bouaké, in Ivory Coast. All of the piece’s features indicate its ethnic appearance, the proportions are perfect.

Figurines of this kind are not recent.
These sculptures have appeared with colonisation, which explains their name, and unlike what can be said here and there, these were not destined to mock the white man, “but fully participate in different animist cults".
Before the arrival of Portuguese merchants who made a stopover on the route to India, the natives had never been in contact with the Western civilisation.

Shipment within 24 working hours.
Track & trace included.
With acknowledgement of receipt.
