Nsembu initiatory mask - Kumu komo - Congo DRC

Nsembu initiatory mask - Kumu komo - Congo DRC
Mid 20th century - Vintage - used with visible signs of wear

28 cm.
Former collection Belgium, collected in the bush by its former owner, during a safari.

This flattened mask comes from the Kumu or Komo ethnic group, established in the north of the D.R. Congo.
In these wide, instable forest regions, we can find many little groups with porous styles, who have influenced themselves respectively, since a long time. Initiatory societies are the norm in this region, for example, in the Ituri forests.
This one is no exception, with its simple and expressive style.

Cf. L'âme de l'Afrique, S. Diakonoff.

Shipment within 24 working hours.
Track & trace included.
With acknowledgement of receipt.
