PHILIPS radio A 48 U in mint condition, plays well
Model: A 48 U
Radio of medium in size, manufactured by PHILIPS model A 48 U from 1942, the housing is made of Bakelite in black colour with shiny appearance. The housing has no damage and it is really in excellent condition, almost like new. The cloth of the front panel is clean and free of spots and dust.
The radio has a really unique look. Its round-edged cube shape is inspired by the Cubist style. The most unusual part is the flap or panel in front of the radio. The radio turns on when the flap is open and switches off when it is closed. The glass with the names of radio stations is shown when the front panel is open.
The flap is coated with a thin rosewood veneer (a thin layer of wood); which is rather rare for this kind of radio (usually painted). The PHILIPS logo is present.
The radio plays on wavelengths LW, MW, SW.
The radio has been restored very carefully; especially all the leaky capacitors have been replaced by new ones and the tubes have been tested. A wire of 3 or 4 meters must be used as antennae to tune the stations correctly.
Size: 31 cm wide, 21 cm high and 17.5 cm deep, weight: 3.6 kg
Radio will be very well packaged using double-reinforced box and shipped via registered mail.
