Stone sculpture by the Quito sculptor Luis Viracocha Quishpe from Ecuador.
His father was an old school sculptor who worked with stones from the Guagua Pichincha and the quarry of San Antonio. So he grew up with the medium of stone at an early age, he says himself, "that he was born with the smell of stone", as his mother was already making whetstones at that time.
Since childhood he has worked with the material he finds and reshapes in the jungle forests, on beaches and in mountain ranges.
For his sculptures he uses local stones such as andesite, serpentine, granite, basalt & marble, from which he transforms their essential textures into expressive forms.
