Rembrandt van Rijn, 1606-1669.
“Christus verjaagt de geldwisselaars uit de tempel”, etching 1635 (= Hollstein 139, Bartsch 69). Very old, possibly 17th century, or early 18th century print (±1690) of the second edition (out of four).
Size etching 13.8 x 16.8 cm, margin approx. ± 1 mm. Signature "Rembrandt f. 1635” bottom right in the plate.
Small restoration in both bottom corners, hardly visible from the front.
Rembrandt made two more later edition of this etching, so four in total.
Sharp and clear print, the front appears to be quite fresh. On the back is an older paper reinforcement in all the four corners. Along the top edge are two remnants of paper tape. It has some (catalogue?) numbers of previous collectors in pencil. It features 800 with sign in the bottom corner, possible an old price indication.
