Egon Schiele (1890-1918) - Knappenberg

Description
Egon Schiele (1890-1918) - Knappenberg
Heliogravure / Lithography - Plate signed - 1912

Original helio engraving / lithography on thick quality paper with signature in the plate. This reproduction of Egon Schiele was printed in limited, small edition in 1950 by the State printing house of Austria. The artwork was never framed and was well preserved beyond the reach of sunlight.

These reproductions are difficult to find because they are located at official agencies or in private collections. Copies from the same series have been sold on Catawiki in the past for more than 1000 euros. A certificate and additional information are an integral part of this lot.

Egon Schiele (June 12th 1890 - October 31st 1918) was an Austrian painter. Schiele was a protégé of Gustav Klimt and an important figurative painter of the early 20th century. His work is known for its intensity and its raw sexuality and the many self-portraits that the artist made. The twisted body shapes and the expressive line that characterised the Schiele’s work, mark the artist as an early exponent of expressionism.

The used printing process used for this reproduction is of the highest quality ever. Today, there are only three publishing houses in the world that apply this. The colour image is split up - from light to dark - into maximum of 25 colours and then printed on top of each other in as many print cycles. The finished image thus achieved a colour quality that was almost comparable to the original. This technique was mainly used in small editions.
