Jurjen de Haan (The Hague, 1936 - 2018)
Jurjen de Haan initially focused on photorealism and gradually began to focus on large multi-coloured abstract paintings that evoke an imaginative and slightly ill-considered world.
Until 1988-1989, busy, mobile lines filled the areas of colour and gave the surface of the painting a dancing or swaying suggestion. Jurjen de Haan likes to paint on large canvases. But he also paints narrow standing or lying or triangular canvases. Everything is painted “wet-in-wet”, although it often seems as if the sensible nuances have arisen after a long process of drying and repainting, layer-on-layer (Source: Art Zaanstad)
