Characteristic of Rainier Fettings work are the large 'Shower paintings' he made in the early 1980s, in which the naked male body is displayed in different postures with pleasure. In addition, he painted cityscapes, forest and city views (New York). His style of painting was understood by critics as a throwback to German expressionism of the beginning of the century, albeit in a contemporary 'fast' version.
