In good condition, a very rare wooden metal sculpture by the Italian designer Gaetano Pesce (1939) for manufacturer Cassina Italy, made from strips of wood and mounted in a varnished wooden frame with metal base.
Production of 1000 copies, specially released for Christmas 1968.
Signed "Gaetano Pesce" 1963 per Cassina 1968-1969".
The design is from 1963 and we know that Cesare Cassina and Gaetano Pesce started working together in the early 60s and that in those days they did many experiments with wood, paper, platic, rubber and fabric.
Measurements: Height 37 cm x Width 37 cm.
The back is lightly discoloured, see photos. Presumably because the previous owner placed it in daylight that was too bright.
See the last two photos:
1. A photo of Gaetano Pesce's studio / workshop in New York (copyright of photo Ogata/Surface). In the photo you can see the same wooden relief, see the two green arrows. This photo is from an interview "INSIDE GAETANO PESCE'S NEW YORK STUDIO" from 20 May 2016), where Gaetano Pesce was interviewed.
2. A similar wooden relief which was auctioned in 2010 in the auction house 'Asti di Antiquariato Boetto' in Genoa, Italy.
