Signed. 6 x Original watercolour panels painted by Virginio Livraghi in 1961 for ‘Leo The Friendly Lion’ comic strip published in ‘Playhour’. These are all 6 panels making up the story.
Considered one of the masters of anthropomorphic character painting, Livraghi’s incredibly fine brush work and beautiful dreamlike watercolour backgrounds are fantastic.
Working for the Italian agency ‘Creazioni Dami’, Livraghi only painted for this strip for a short time, from 1960-1961, after which another artist, Bert Felstead took over with a chunkier, more comic style. Fortunately for fans, Livraghi reappeared on the scene to paint a series of gorgeous ‘Brer Rabbit’ stories, appearing in Once Upon A Time Magazine.
Livraghi also painted for interpretations of Pinocchio, Snow White, Aladdin, Alice in Wonderland, Isobel St Vincent’s Penny Pullet and Maria Pia Pezzi’s Curly Pig
Panels measure 124mm x 88mm each
