For the 1982 Football World Cup in Spain, each of the 14 host cities of the tournament called upon a famous artist to design their poster, whether they were Spanish or not.
Eduardo CHILLIDA, born on 10th January 1924, in San Sebastian and died on 19th August 2002 in the same city, a famous Basque sculptor and engraver, was chosen to design the poster.
Gaston Bachelard nicknamed him "the blacksmith" because of his taste for monumental metal sculptures. Chillida also worked with other materials: wood, iron, granite and more contemporary materials such as concrete and steel. His works on paper are an important part of his creation. Whether in ink, pencil, or engraving technique, his works follow the same principle as his sculptures.
This original lithographic poster - printed by the Maeght workshop in 1981 - is signed in the plate on the bottom right.
