Pierre ALECHINSKY - Original lithographic poster printed by Galerie MAEGHT in 1981 - Signed on the bottom right by Alechinsky who was chosen to design the poster for the city of Alicante for the 1982 World Cup in Spain. This is one of the rarest of the 15 posters of the series made for this event, where each of the tournament host cities appealed to a famous artist, painter or Illustrator, whether he was Spanish or not.
Pierre ALECHINSKY born on 19th October 1927 in Saint-Gilles-lez-Brussels, is the father of the poet Ivan Alechine (born in 1952) and the sculptor Nicolas Alquin (born in 1958). He is a Belgian painter and engraver. His work mixes expressionism with surrealism. In 1949, he joined the CoBrA Group, a movement that was created in 1948 and advocated for a return to a more provocative, aggressive and bold art, along with Karel appeal, Constant, Jan Nieuwenhuys and Asger Jorn.
In December 2007, on the occasion of his eightieth birthday, the Musées Royaux des beaux-arts in Brussels, Belgium paid tribute to him through a retrospective exhibition of his whole carrier.
