Pierre ALECHINSKY born on 19th October 1927 in Saint-Gilles-lez-Brussels, is the father of the poet Ivan Alechine (born in 1952) and the sculptor Nicolas Alquin (born in 1958). He is a Belgian painter and engraver. His work mixes expressionism with surrealism. In 1949, he joined the CoBrA Group, a movement that was created in 1948 and advocated for a return to a more provocative, aggressive and bold art, along with Karel appeal, Constant, Jan Nieuwenhuys and Asger Jorn.
In December 2007, on the occasion of his eightieth birthday, the Musées Royaux des beaux-arts in Brussels, Belgium paid tribute to him through a retrospective exhibition of his whole carrier.
