CONDITION: wood, red, black , white green paint.cracks in base, slight cracks and scratches in the wood, part of hat and base re glued, otherwise perfect condition.
Shows an African man with a pith helmet and a costume with red-green tie and pants, one hand in his pocket, the other along the body, wearing white shoes.
The pith helmet is painted white, the rest of the sculpture is painted , with his white feets standing upon an unpainted wooden base. The Baule are people coming from Cote D'Ivoire. Such figures -also found among the Akan- meaning "colonial" feature when African men are in French dress.
Collected in the 70's by a private collector in Antwerp. Estimated age: 1960-70's
