Replica Mummified Conjoined Fetus - we custom plinth - - - 42×17×11 cm
1857 - France

Replica of mummified Siamese twins, inspired by the Dupuytren Museum in Paris.

1:1 scale

Materials: resin, latex, wood, metal, acrylic paint

The origin of Siamese twins: This condition occurs only during monoamniotic monochorial twin pregnancy (one envelope and one placenta for both fetuses). The fusion of twins is thus a very rare accident of embryonic development, of which the mechanism is uncertain and the causes unknown.

The Dupuytren Museum was a museum of pathological anatomy in Paris created in 1835 by Mathieu Orfila. It was located at 15 rue de l'École-de-Médecine, part of what was for a long time the Faculty of Medicine of Paris and is now the Faculty of Medicine Paris-Descartes. It was named in honour of the French anatomist and surgeon Guillaume Dupuytren.
