Godvruchtige overdenkingen (...) is a fairly scarce work by the famous English preacher and writer James Hervey (1714-1758). Born in Cincinnati, he was educated at the grammar school of Northampton, and at Lincoln College, Oxford. Here he came under the influence of John Wesley and the Oxford Methodists.
His writing style shows a rare appreciation of natural beauty and simple piety that appealed to many people. His earliest work, ‘Meditations and Contemplations’, was partly modelled on Robert Boyle's ‘Occasional Reflexions on various Subjects’ and many reprints followed.
