Wine bought in January 2011 to a retired wine distributor from Haro, La Rioja.
Stored in private cellar up to today.
This is a masterpiece from Rioja: aged in cask for 25 years. Bottled in 1959, and re-corked in 1981. Currently, it would be classified "Gran Reserva" by the Regulatory Council of Rioja.
Very good storage conditions and very high filling level. Vintage 1934 has been unanimously considered as one of the best years in the first half of the 20th century in Rioja, and it was the very first time a vintage was classified "Excellent" by the Regulatory Council of Rioja. This is the highest rating possible and it was only awarded two times from 1900 to 1950: in 1934 and 1948.
The old vintages of "Marqués de Murrieta Reserva" from the first half of the 20th century must be considered in the same quality level of Castillo Ygay. Both brands were produced with vines and grapes from the same vineyard and aged in cask for a period over 20 to 25 years in all cases. The production was extremely limited; just a few thousand bottles.
