Emanuel Swedenborg (1688 - 1772) was a Swedish scientist, mystic, philosopher and theologian. The Swedenborg family was nobility. His father Jesper Swedenborg was bishop and professor at the University of Uppsala.
Swedenborg studied the brain and the endocrine glands. Some of his discoveries weren’t confirmed as correct/workable until the 20th century. Swedenborg was the first to propose to introduce the metric system in all of Europe. His genius was endless. He made designs for airplanes, submarines, weapons, air pumps etc.
Swedenborg was highly interested in spirituality. He even tried to come up with a rational explanation of the working of the soul. He had a series of ‘visions’ in 1744 and 1745 that left a deep impression in him. These occurred after a serious crisis in 1743.
He lived in London until his passing in 1745. There he wrote a thirty volume work about theology. (source: Wikipedia).
In his spiritual diary ‘Opmerkenswaardige Levende ondervindingen’ (OLO), Swedenborg describes his experiences with ghosts and angels.
