Painter, etcher, playwright, musician, born Naples. Based in Rome 1635-40, in Florence 1640-9, then returned to Rome in 1649, where remained for the rest of his life. Pupil of Lanfranco and Ribera. Protégé of the 'Duke of Tuscany'. Important painter but also etcher in a very personal style.
