Collected works, Illustrated, Sport, games & pastimes, Topography - Quantity: 1

I have a book entitled THE COMPLETE ANGLER OR THE CONTEMPLATIVE MAN'S RECREATION Being a Discourse of Rivers Fish-Ponds Fish and Fishing written by IZAAK WALTON and INSTRUCTIONS HOW TO ANGLE FOR A TROUT OR GRAYLING IN A CLEAR STREAM BY CHARLES COTTON with Original Memoirs and Notes by Sir Harris Nicolas and sixty Illustrations from Designs by Stothard and Inskipp published by Chatto and Windus, London, in 1875. The popularity of The Complete Angler continues unabated and in this edition the text is that of the fifth edition, published in 1676 and here the dialogue naturally forms five divisions marked "The First Day", "The Second Day". "The Third Day", "The Fourth Day" and "The Fifth Day". The scenic illustrations were painted on the spot by Thomas Stothard and the Fishes were painted from nature by James Inskipp.

Brown cloth boards with gilt lettering surrounded by a gilt illustration and black border lines on the front board. Corners slightly rubbed. Gilt lettering and decoration on the spine which is showing some wear with fraying at the top and bottom, and part ripped. Light foxing. Front hinge partially cracked but all pages are firm and the book is in very good condition. 320 pages plus catalogue 32 pages. 20.5 x 13.5 cm.
