Oil on canvas - Portrait of Giacomo Puccini and self-portrait of his friend and painter Ferruccio Pagni, made and signed by the latter, about whom I copy and paste from the internet :
"In June 1891 he met the composer Giacomo Puccini, who had just taken up residence with his family on the lake and to whom Pagni was bound by deep friendship, supported by an instinctive correspondence of sensitivity. Puccini, for his part, appreciated Pagni's painting, urging him to cultivate the Impressionist approach rather than the Morbelli-like pointillism (Pagni - Marotti, 1926, p. 77). Attracted by the still unspoiled beauty of Padule among sedges, coots, pine forests and hunting trips, many other artists (Francesco Fanelli, Ludovico and Angiolo Tommasi, Raffaello Gambogi ) converged in Torre del Lago, eventually creating together with Pagni and Puccini himself, complete with statute, the 'Club La Bohème', which took its name from the opera: gathered in a hut that functioned as a tavern and meeting place (immortalised by Pagni himself in a drawing, rep. in pittori del Lago, 1998, p. 59), the founders devoted themselves to playful, artistic-musical and hunting initiatives, welcoming over the years many other artists orbiting Versilia, such as Plinio Nomellini, Amedeo Lori, Lorenzo Viani, Galileo. In August 1893, as Rinaldo Cortopassi recalls (1926, pp. 15 s.), Pagni was with Nomellini and Fanelli among the organisers of the first exhibition of modern art of Viareggio, an initiative of which little information is known and which ended in failure "
