Songye Axe, DRC Congo. The Songye are a Bantu people from central Africa, established in the southeast of the Democratic Republic of Congo. According to the latest available statistics (1987-1989), they come close to 428,000 inhabitants, divided in many provinces (Kasai-Occidental and Kasai Oriental, Maniema and Katanga); the towns and cities of Kananga, Mbuji Mayi, Kabinda, Gandajika, Lubao, Lusambo, Samba, Kasongo and Kongolo accommodate a significant part of this ethnic group.
