Second School of Fontainebleau

Starting from the reign of Henry IV, a late mannerist style sometimes referred to as the "Second School of Fontainebleau" developed. Echoing the first school, it mainly refers to the painters who were active on the royal worksites. This new team, however, differs from the previous one, by its large number of artists of Flemish origin and more generally, by a more pronounced Nordic influence, which can be explained by the political circumstances of the time
