(Barcelona, 1871-1945). Spanish painter and illustrator who cultivated the landscape subject-matter. He was Commander of the Order of Alfonso XII and member of the Círculo Artístico de San Lluc. He began his training at the School of La Lonja in Barcelona, where he was a disciple of Antonio Caba, Luis Rigalt and Eliseo Meifrén. He furthered his training in Rome, Madrid, Paris, London and Munich. As an illustrator we can highlight his collaborations in the weekly Blanco y Negro. He sent his works to national and international exhibitions, and obtained honourable mentions at the 1892 Nacional and second medal at the 1897 edition for the canvas entitled Pantano de Nemi. He was also awarded with an honourable mention at the 1900 Paris Salon of the Society of French Artists and with a first medal at the international exhibitions of Athens (1903), Barcelona (1907) and at the Artes e Industrias de México (1910). His first landscapes are characterized by the use of an Impressionist language that would later evolve towards a more direct and natural painting, through the use of a short and vibrant brushstroke.
