Torroella was mainly a self-taught artist, although for a time he studied with the painter Vidal Palmada. He held his first solo exhibition in 1948, in Villafranca del Penedés. He also participated in various collective exhibitions and art competitions, being awarded with the Vila de Palamós watercolour award in 1967. On his death, his widow donated Torroella’s legacy to the municipality of Palamós, with the aim of contributing to the promotion of Visual Arts and the recognition of this important local painter. Currently, the Palamós City Council prepares the creation of the Ezequiel Torroella art space at the El Carmen chapel. Thus, the bulk of Torroella’s work is preserved in the Fondo Municipal de Arte de Palamós, Carmen Thyssen collection, although it is also represented in the Museo de la Pesca of the city and in various private collections.
