United States of America - WW2 Silver Star Medal - Numbered! (Very rare!) - 1942

Description
United States of America - WW2 Silver Star Medal - Numbered! (Very rare!) - 1942
Original - Bronze (gilt/silvered/patinated) - Very good condition

A beautiful original Silver Star Medal is offered, marked with serial number 74721, which stands for production by 'The Robbins Company' in 1942. Marked Silver Stars are extremely rare because they have not been made since 1943 (Only after 1943 the largest numbers were produced).

The ribbon was later replaced by the then official producer 'Lordship Industries' (LI-GI marking). This happened all the time.

The medal stands for extreme heroic deeds and courage in time of war, with risk of your own life, more than that the service requires, but neither exceptional enough for the Navy Cross, Air Force Cross or Distinguished Service Cross.
The Silver Star is the third highest award in the US Army which makes them rare and especially the WW2 types rarely come to market as a complete set!
