Biography of Ivo Pascual Rodés (Vilanova i la Geltrú, 1883 - Riudarenes, 1949)

He was Joan Llimona’s disciple, and an admirer of Joaquim Vayreda. In 1902 he exhibited his works in the Círculo Artístico de Sant Lluc and in 1911 he was awarded in the Exposición de Bellas Artes of Barcelona. When Josep Berga y Boix died in 1914, he obtained by exam the direction of the Escuela Menor de Artes y Oficios of Olot. As a painter, Ivo Pascual distinguished himself for his traditional and bucolic interpretations and he created a style as a master. He was also the founder and the soul of the ‘Novecentista’ group “Les arts i els artistes’. In 1934 he became the director of the Escuela Superior de Paisaje, founded in Olot by the Generalitat de Catalunya. In March 1936 an exhibition was held in the Casa del Ardiaca, in Barcelona, which proved the efficiency of that school. At the outbreak of the Civil War, he worked in order to saveguard Olot’s cultural heritage. When the war was over (1939), and since the school he had directed had disapeared, he left Olot and established himself in Riudarenes, due to the political repression.
