Large and heavy antique Dutch silver matchbox holder.

This imposing, large matchbox holder is handmade and extremely beautifully decorated with a detailed old Dutch depiction in relief.

The scene consists of a very detailed depiction of a 19th century inn.
With lots of details such as:drinking and eating men, open window with cottage in the background, man with drum, decorated sofa, etc.

The holder is beautifully hallmarked with Dutch hallmarks and marked with silver hallmarks:
Fineness mark Lion Passant 2nd grade content 0.833.
Hallmark Minerva head with letter M of Schoonhoven.
Year stamp D = 1913
Maker’s mark not found.

It is a very large imposing miniature with a height of 11.2 cm and a width of 7.3 cm.

The holder is also very heavy and weighs 97.1 g.

The lot is in a wonderful condition.
There's a crack on the edge of the drum of the man with the drum.
This is virtually invisible at the front, but can be seen at the back (see photos).

The holder is a striking and particularly decorative object due to its impressive size and exceptionally beautiful shape.
It can still be used of course.
