Erik Dahlbergh - Suecia Antiqua et Hodierna

Erik Dahlbergh - Suecia Antiqua et Hodierna
Engraving - Not signed - 1716

The cover page of Erik Dahlbergh's "Suecia Antiqua et Hodierna", a famous work that captures Sweden at the end of the 16th century.

The title is placed in the middle engraved on a pedestal on which rests a female figure with sceptre and turreted crown next to a lion, allegory of Sweden; behind her an angel plays the trumpet of victory, while Perseus, recognisable by the head of the Medusa he treads, offers the laurel wreath. In the background one can see a naval battle scene underlined at the bottom by the passage of Poseidon that holds his trident accompanied by his horses.

Well-preserved sheet with an incisive hand colouring. There is a reinforcement of the left edge at the back, however still present.

Shipping via courier.
