Ancient Greek Pottery black glazed epichysis with a spool shaped body and tall handle
Greek, Gnathian colonies in South Italy, 4th Century BC

Provenance: Ex. collection: Count Ferdinand de Grasset (1913-2010), Chateau des Bretignolles, France. Acquired in the 19th Century and thence by family descent.

Either side of the spout is decorated with a roundel molded as a Classical head. The body is painted with red and white foliate decoration.

Traces of two 19th Century ink numbers under the base.

Previous ownership history: Ex. collection: D. Broadbent, Manchester, UK. This is part of an extensive collection of antiquities acquired from Folio Fine Arts and Charles Ede Ltd. between 1968 – 2007.
