Joseph Étienne, known as Étienne de Jouy born on 19 October 1764 in Versailles and died on 4 September 1846 in Saint-Germain-en-Laye, was a French playwright and librettist.
He successfully published in the Gazette de France satires of Parisian life, collected under the title L'Ermite de la Chaussée d'Antin, ou observations sur les mœurs et les usages français au début du xixe siècle (1812-1814, 5 volumes). L'Ermite de la Chaussée d'Antin was followed by several similar series: Guillaume le franc-parleur (1814-1815), L’Ermite de la Guyane (1815-1817), and then L’Ermite en province (1817-1827).
Alexandre-Joseph Desenne, born on 1 January 1785 in Paris and died on 30 January 1827, was a French history painter and draughtsman.
