1st half 20th century - Vintage - used with visible signs of wear

Wood, pigments.
Former collection Belgium - Piece purchased from a former Walloon contemporary painter who had acquired it from a gallery owner, specialised in primitive art, in Liège.

Munyangi Mask from the eastern Pende. There are two horns or ears on the summit.
The use of red, black and white pigments (which we can find in other regions of central Africa) refer to balanced oppositions between the spirit (white) and the material world which is bloody (red).
Marvellous patina.
