author: Johann Karl Ludwig Martin (Jever (Ostfriesland), 24 November 1851 - Leiden, 14 November 1942) was a German geologist and professor at the University of Leiden. He was a son of the historian Wilhelm Martin. As a scientist he is known for his palaeontological and stratigraphical research on the Cenozoic fauna of the Dutch East Indies, especially on mollusks.

A special student of Martin was Queen Wilhelmina, who had a collection of fossils and minerals and took private lessons in geology.
