Former Smets family collection, Ganshoren.
A piece brought back in the 1960s by Mr. Smets who worked in Congo.

Superb Bembe ‘Mukuya’ statue.
This is the ancestor representation. This is a piece with a classic style perfectly matching the general features of this type of piece.
There is an elongated torso on short legs. It is covered with thick scarifications representing the scarifications worn by Bembe men.
The character wears a beard and a high crest.
Its hands hold sovereign objects.
Beautiful smooth brown patina.
