An exceptional gilded Edo period suit of armour with red cords and laced kozane- plates (kinkozane kurenai’ito odoshi dōmaru gusoku) Complete with a high-quality sixty-four-plate black lacquered sujikabuto-helmet with small fukikaeshi decorated with a relief crest with three falcon feathers inside a circle (maru ni mitsu takanoha mon). In front of the helmet is a maedate of a gilded sun with thirteen rays. The helmet has four neckguards (shikoro). A black lacquered facial mask of an old man's face with a separate nose piece and a brown moustache (resseibō) with a four-piece gorget (nodowa) hanging from it. The shoulders are protected with rather small seven-piece gilded sode and Japanese mail (kusari) together with gilded metal gourd pieces over red brocade on the arms (fukubekote). Two-piece cuirass with laced gilded kozane plates (kinkozane nimaidō) from which hangs a skirt of six five-piece kusazuri. Large haidate with red cords laced black lacquered metal karuta-plates protect the upper legs. The lower legs are protected by gilded vertical metal strips over red brocate (shinosuneate). With a brocade waistband. In a black box for a suit of armour (yoroibako).
