Fortunato Stasi - collina a oltreacqua (sassello)

Description
Fortunato Stasi - collina a oltreacqua (sassello)
Oil on hardboard - Hand signed - 1978

He dedicated himself to painting and illustration at a very young age, and only his great passion will allow him to reconcile his intense artistic activity with a career made up of long hours, study, effort, which will see him start early with humble jobs to arrive, at age 33, to the point of being an established designer of ophthalmic structures widespread in Italy and abroad, and who will eventually be rewarded with the star of Maestro del Lavoro.
He was an illustrator of educational newspapers, "Lo Scolaro" of which he had the first page, "Faville", "Il Sentiero", and was also friends with appreciated local painters with whom he painted en plein air. During the war, with other displaced colleagues, he founded a satirical newspaper, "La Navassa", of which he was the illustrator along with Riccardo Pavero and the Russian Eugenio Disconzi.
At the end of the conflict, the appearance of Genoa still strewn with rubble fascinated him and he captured it in drawings published in "Il lavoro", which will be then partly collected in a screen-prints folder presented by Remo Borzini in 1975. He became part of the G.B. Perasso dialect company as a set designer, making scenic sketches for the Piccolo Duse, he created advertising and industrial graphics, illustrated storybooks and poetry, and dedicated himself to satirical drawing, he was present at various editions of the "Salone internazionale dell'umorismo" in Bordighera, where he received an award, and was invited twice to the" Pavillon International de l'Humour Terre des Hommes" in Montreal with the greatest cartoonists in Europe. The predominant activity is, however, painting, where, although he did not neglect his inclination to experimentation and variety of subjects, he preferred the impact of reality. He was part of the Piedmont group "Les Chèvres", heir to the painters of Bardonecchia that includes names such as Casorati and Lilloni; the partnership of friendship and work will last over twenty years, with periodic meetings in the valleys of Susa and Aosta, even in the depths of winter. He also joined the group of painters of "Artegiro" of Amedeo Massari, sponsored by the major Italian newspapers, which created traveling exhibitions of figurative painting and cultural meetings first in Italy, then all over the world thanks to cruises in collaboration with Costa Armatori, and air cruises to Moscow and Leningrad and New York.
Many awards, participations, prizes, including the celebration for its 80th anniversary organized in the atrium of Palazzo Fieschi by the Circoscrizione di Sestri. He exhibited in 75 solo shows, almost 440 collective ones, impromptu and gatherings; he was a member of Columbian Academy on St. Louis, of the Accademie Europeen des Arts in Paris, the Accademia per le Arti, Lettere, Scienze, Cultura dei "500" in Rome and the Accademia Tiberina; his works are present in the public gallery of Livorno, Genoa, New York City Hall and the House of Friendship in Moscow.
Among the qualities that have been attributed to his painting, he preferred those that placed him between the Fauve and Post-Impressionist genre, thanks his intense chromaticism and the simplification of forms.
He continued to paint with great vigour and passion until the last days of his life.
