The piece is a re-working of the original piece "Observing 37" that has since sold with Gallery Different in London. I delivered the piece to Different on the 9th March. I drove up to London that Monday with an uneasy feeling that we were not long away from something terrible. I had followed the news obsessively from the outbreak in China and had been quietly shitting myself since. I distinctly remember seeing dozens of people in masks as I snailed through central London for the last 5 mile of my journey. The atmosphere was tense, police were everywhere.
It seems appropriate that a masked figure found their way into the eventual print, penciled in speculatively as an omen of things to come or perhaps just a symbol of a new reality we all face and will inevitably adapt to.
As dreadful as things are in Europe, I fear areas of Africa, the Middle East and South America will be hit even harder. This is why I have chosen to support MSF, as there comprehensive approach to pandemic relief spans the whole globe, focusing in particular on the most vulnerable.
The print comes with artists certificate of authenticity.
This artwork should be displayed away from direct sunlight and fluorescent lighting. Do not hang in areas of high humidity.
